After the ready-made garments sector, the home textiles sector can be the second largest export earning sector.
The Export Promotion Bureau has recently shared data showing that in 2023 first quarter of the 2023 fiscal year the home textile exporters shipped more than US dollar 350 million worth goods. Manufactures said that the first quarter of this financial year overall export earnings showed a declining position amid the raging war and unprecedented inflation in the west, home textile mentioned their growth momentum.
Bangladesh entered into the global market in the 80s & competed with the giant players like India, China, Pakistan, and Turkey etc.
Home textile factories are very few in numbers compared to the woven & knit garments. 25-30 factories are producing home textile items. Allora Bangladesh is a local brand selling premium categories of home textile items only locally, sister concern of BangJin Group has taken initiative to focus on exporting the home textile items globally. Like Allora Bangladesh there are many other home textile companies such as Classical home, Living Tex, Yellow & many more.
Bangladesh has immense prospects in home textiles; the country is still lagging behind in ensuring fair rates. Bangladesh has the potentiality to grab the global market through proper planning & innovation. Bangladesh needs more investments in research, quality products, sustainable growth & government support. The government’s policy support is paramount for this sector.
